Uncovering the identity and location of the Fifth Sage is one of the most exciting mysteries in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. While players spend early hours helping four primary regional allies, a hidden fifth companion awaits discovery in the sky and depths of Hyrule. Navigating this multi-step storyline requires patience, specific key items, and proper progression through the main campaign.

Prerequisites for Unlocking the Quest

Before officially starting the questline for the Fifth Sage, players must complete the four primary Regional Phenomena storylines. Additionally, finishing the events surrounding the Crisis at Hyrule Castle sequence triggers Purah to direct Link toward ancient ruins. Meeting these requirements ensures that key NPCs become available in Kakariko Village to advance the plot.

It is worth noting that players can technically discover the Spirit Temple early through exploration. However, following the intended quest line provides valuable story context and clears environmental hazards like severe storm clouds. Having ten Heart Containers prepared is also necessary to open crucial quest doors.

Investigating the Ring Ruins in Kakariko Village

Your official journey begins by traveling to Kakariko Village to speak with Chief Paya and Tauro. Investigating the central floating Ring Ruin grants access to a hidden tablet inscription. Taking a picture of the slab with the Purah Pad camera unlocks crucial clues regarding the location of the next objective.

This discovery initiates the Secret of the Ring Ruins quest, sending Link south toward the Faron region. Following Tauro's trail leads adventurers to Dracozu Lake along the winding river. Solving the riddle at the river requires donning the Charged Armor set and placing a Zonai Charge on the altar.

Journeying Through the Thunderhead Isles

Completing the altar ritual clears the dense storm surrounding the sky above Faron. Link must travel to the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower and launch into the atmosphere to access the Thunderhead Isles. Because lightning strikes frequently, equipping non-metallic gear and wooden weapons is highly recommended for survival.

Navigating through the floating islands leads directly to Dragonhead Island at the southern end. Upon reaching the Joku-u Shrine, players will find a heavy door requiring ten Heart Containers to open. Examining the relic inside temporarily clears remaining weather effects and reveals a guidance beam.

Assembling the Construct in the Depths

Following the green light from the relic takes Link down into the Depths beneath Tobio's Hollow. Placing the mask onto the central pedestal inside the Construct Factory activates the final phase of the quest. Link must visit four surrounding depots to retrieve the missing arms and legs for the mechanical vessel.

Once all four construct pieces are secured, Mineru, the Sage of Spirit, takes physical form. Controlling this powerful mech companion allows players to attach Zonai weaponry and traverse dangerous Gloom terrain easily. Defeating the Seized Construct boss at the Spirit Temple completes the quest, permanently unlocking the Fifth Sage.
